Can you trust them to stay quiet? Or do they have one person they have to tell? [there's an implication there; and will they tell one person? and will they tell one person? but he can't stop him, he can only look at him long and seriously.]

I just think it'd be nice if we didn't have to worry about being held again. After that's built- as far as I'm concerned, I'm done with this.

[ Miles lifts his chin stubbornly, a bit offended. ]

I assure you, it will be only the two of us. No further. I trust the man with my life and my soul both.

[ Don't you sass him on this one, he will tear you to shreds. ]

... You want to prevent another kidnapping? How?

Mm. [he's not fighting it. instead, he's just looking towards the device, and making a gesture towards it] I told you- that's just a prototype. And that it has other features.

[and that? that is a smile, but it actually does have some good humor.]

Wait 'til you see when it's finished.

[ It takes him a moment, but Miles is a brilliant tactician for a reason. He picks this kind of thing up easily. ]

The nanites. You mean to disable them?

[pushtheboundaries]

[clever man. he could play coy...but settles for shrugging a bit.] Something like that. Disabling them completely could risk literally unleashing hell. [assuming they're what's keeping Lucifer in check.] But they're the one common bond between all of those who were taken- which means they're the key to defending ourselves.

I think you're right. Knowing nothing about the science behind it -

[ LACKEY being some sort of porter helps as well with that assumption. ]

Does it necessarily turn off all powers when it does that? Is it a choice between superpowers and safety?

[pushtheboundaries]

You mean, if it could pick and choose what powers?...I don't think that's possible. In terms of blocking the nanites without blocking the powers?...that's what I'm going to find out.

I'm more concerned with the latter. There's one in particular I have to keep.

Hypothetically...it should be possible. [he leans back a bit, furrowing his brow.] Assuming that connection of ours is based on the nanites- well, it wasn't blocked when all your powers were, was it? A lot of you made contact with us, and vice versa.

[dendarii]

That's ... true, I suppose. My friend and I were in constant communication throughout.

But I still very much need one of my abilities. It's vital to my continued health.

[ That's an exaggeration, somewhat. But losing his connection to Gregor would be a staggering blow to his mental health. ]

Ah. [and he tilts his head.] No wonder you noticed when I turned the thing on. And I'm sure you're not the only one who relies on them...

[he lets out a breath, reaching up to rub the bridge of his nose] I'll do what I can, but my first priority right now is getting the thing working, period, as opposed to picking and choosing. What I can tell you is that the design's limited in range, and that the more it has the harder it is to keep up - I may just go back to the individually-sized units it's based on.

[easier to utilize, but they'd take quite a bit longer to produce. and unless he found a funder...

[ It's not his fault if Callaghan assumes Miles means something having to do with his physical body. Miles lets his gaze drift down to the machine again, thoughtful... ]

[if he's offering...Robert makes a thoughtful noise, regarding him before shrugging lightly]

I've been taking some blood samples to try and isolate the nanite traces, if you're of a mind to help. I've had a few already, but...

[he won't say no to more. at the same time, it's not necessary, not by any means.]

[ Is that all. Miles relaxes immediately. ]

Of course. It's no trouble at all - I've had so many medical procedures done that a little blood draw hardly fazes me.

[pushtheboundaries]

[he's using others for test subjects. like himself. Robert smiles a bit, relaxing as well] Good to hear. The more I can run against each other, the quicker this'll go. Now, unless I'm mistaken, that thing's going to run out of juice in a minute or two- so unless you've anything you can think to ask me...

[ He carefully clicks it off. ]

[and there goes the humming. not that Robert's powers allow him to really sense its' operation - it's one of the reasons why he doesn't mind the noise.
